Why Masseria? And how was it created?

Masseria Torrelonga, located in the heart of Puglia, is a medieval watchtower, later fortified due to frequent Turkish raids.

The Masseria, a term deriving from the Latin massa, meaning "insieme di fondi" and from the word masserizia (furniture, decor and tools for agricultural and pastoral use) is a typical rural building settlement of the 16th-17th century, which for a long time represented the most common type of agricultural-pastoral farm in Puglia.

Today the masseria’s have a life of their own and in many cases have been transformed into accommodation facilities and residences of various types.

Masseria Torrelonga presents itself as an articulated structure, equipped with a single large central body - where the 5 suites are arranged -, which is accessed by a double and large entrance courtyard, appointed as a reception and entertainment space for guests.

The name "Torrelonga" originates from having been a watchtower, therefore with a high view of the surrounding area, with fortified walls that rise and surround vast gardens and centuries-old olive groves. Inside, adjacent to the central body, Masseria Torrelonga has a small church, now not used, where in the past religious rites were celebrated for those who lived and worked on the farm.

Masseria Torrelonga is therefore located in a strategic and advantageous position: just a few kilometres from the town, it guarantees guests peace, silence and tranquillity, to gradually free themselves from daily stress and regain possession of slow and natural rhythms of life; despite this, it is equidistant from many of the most visited ancient Apulian towns: Locorotondo, Cisternino, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, Fasano, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare. But these most popular Apulian towns are not the only reachable destination, a few minutes by car separates you from the most enchanting beaches of the Apulian coast overlooking the Adriatic sea, from the Coastal Dunes Park and the Torre Guaceto nature reserve.
